Hackney Caps Number of Lap Dancing Clubs
After months of lobbying by OBJECT, residents, local groups and others Hackney Council has decided to cap the number of lap dancing clubs that may operate in the borough.
In effect, the Council has adopted a form of 'nil policy' (which allows zero clubs in the borough). Their policy prevents any new clubs from opening but exempts the 5 clubs currently licensed - so allowing them to continue operating.
Further, the licensing terms that have been adopted place considerable onus on existing clubs for 'responsible behaviour' - including how they may promote themselves, 'no touching rules' within clubs and constant CCTV monitoring, available to the Council and to the police.
Breaches of these conditions can result in a club loosing its license at its annual renewal hearing.
We will be closely monitoring the situation and advising on how the public can register breach of these conditions.
