OBJECT, in conjunction with UK Feminista, Million Women Rise and the London Feminist Network, protested this weekend outside the first International XBIZ porn summit to be held in Europe.
XBIZ is the leading trade event for producers and marketers of pornography. VIP delegates included Michael Klein (President of 'Hustler'); Ilan Bunimovitz, Board Director of 'Private Media Group' (a leading porn producer and distributor) ; Diane Duke, CEO of the porn trade association body 'The Free Speech Coalition'; and a host of producers, distributors and others who profit from the violence, abuse and sexual exploitation of women in pornography.
90% of mainstream porn scenes show violence and aggression and 95% of this violence is directed towards women (Content analysis by Bridges et. al 2010. 'Violence Against Women - An International Peer Reviewed Journal' vol 16,10: 1065-1085).
Placard-holding campaigners went face-to-face with at times agressive XBIZ delegates as they protested outside the event dressed as butchers to symbolise the way pornography treats women as pieces of meat.
The event was hosted by the Radisson Hotel London, a contributer to children's charities with a raft of social responsibility policies including policies on hosting responsible meetings.
