Local groups

OBJECT is a national organisation and our goal is to have local groups taking on grassroots feminist activism across the country.

OBJECT local groups exist for our members to meet and discuss the issues we campaign on - as well as to get involved in both our local and national activism. They also provide a space in which to meet like-minded individuals in a friendly space. We support local groups by working closely with group convenors and members to both plan activism and maintain a 'healthy' activist group.

OBJECT Leeds is a brilliant example of how quickly a group can get off the ground and how empowering it can be to kickstart feminist activism by challenging sex object culture in your town or city. In just 6 months they have produced their own t. shirts, banner and badges, held stalls in the centre of Leeds, collected hundreds of signatures supporting the Strippping the Illusion Campaign, successfully lobbied their council to have outside advertising for lap dancing clubs removed, spoken at events and to the media, networked with other feminist groups, started up their own feminist book group, won funding to raise awareness about violence against women, organised for people to lobby their MPs and they are currently helping to organise Reclaim the Night in Leeds - to name but a few of their achievements!
